We were established in 1985 and have a wealth of experience of different types of residential construction including timber frame, sectional, period, thatch, stone built and traditional.
John Brailsford was engaged in his early career working for firms of chartered surveyors, estate agents and auctioneers, Henry Spencer & Sons of Retford, Frank Innes of Derby and as a partner with William H Brown of Nottingham.
He has also had experience in the estates departments of Nottingham and Leicester Councils engaged in mixed property matters including surveying and valuations.
The lending institutions entered the market place in the 1980’s and John Brailsford started his own practice principally involved in surveying and valuations progressing to a point where he concentrated on private clients.
Following a landmark case in the High Court in 1996 when he acted as an expert witness he has acted for many insurance companies and solicitors providing expert witness reports.
Period houses have always interested him and he has developed a specialism in period property ranging from early timber framed houses through the ages. He has had hands on experience of restoring an early 17th Century house. The quality, elegance and detail of period buildings constructed at a time prior to technology are of great interest if not fascinating.
Modern properties are also very interesting in fact quite challenging, as there are areas of weakness and problems that each decade has produced. An understanding of buildings and how maintenance or the lack of it has affected buildings not because of the aging process of basic constructions but in view of problems created by quality and design not all tested by time as with period building.
Whatever age of building or type of construction we are asked to give advice, help and assurance.
We have experience of all types of residential property including purpose built and converted flats, townhouses, terraced houses, quality and period houses all are treated with the same importance.
We cover the East Midlands area which includes Nottinghamshire, Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Lincolnshire.
